GitHub: Projects
Full Version Only.
Git-Zen works with GitHub Projects (the current Projects, formerly called “Projects V2”). You can:
- Add a new issue to one or more projects when you create it from Zendesk.
- Set single-select project fields, such as Status, on the new issue.
- See each linked issue’s projects and some project field values in the sidebar.
GitHub retired Projects (classic) in 2024. Git-Zen no longer reads or writes classic projects.
Turn on the project picker
Section titled “Turn on the project picker”- Click Settings on the Git-Zen menu bar.
- Under Enable Git-Zen Features, make sure Create new issues is on. Then find New issue fields.
- Next to Project, check visible. Check required if every new issue must go into a project.
- Click Save.
The Project field controls GitHub Projects. When Project is visible, Git-Zen uses GitHub Projects. There is no separate Projects V2 check box.
Grant the project permission
Section titled “Grant the project permission”GitHub Projects need the OAuth project scope. Git-Zen asks for it when you authorize GitHub. If you authorized Git-Zen before this scope existed, the sidebar shows this banner:
GitHub Projects requires updated permissions. Reconnect your GitHub account to enable project selection.
Click Reconnect your GitHub account and approve the request. Then refresh the Zendesk browser window.
For a personal access token, grant Projects: Read and write (organization permission). Git-Zen must write to the project to add an issue to it.
Create an issue in a project
Section titled “Create an issue in a project”When you create an issue, the Project list shows:
- Projects linked to the selected repository.
- Projects owned by the repository’s organization.
- Projects owned by the repository’s user account, for a personal repository.
Git-Zen shows up to 100 projects from each of these sources.
Select one or more projects. For each selected project, Git-Zen shows its single-select fields, such as Status, Priority, or Size. Choose a value for each field you want to set, or leave it at (none).
Git-Zen does not set text, number, date, or iteration fields.
Projects on linked issues
Section titled “Projects on linked issues”The sidebar shows each project that a linked issue belongs to. Under the project name, Git-Zen shows these field values when the project has them:
| Project field name | Shown as |
|---|---|
| Status | a badge next to the project name |
| Priority | Priority |
| Size | Size |
| Estimate | Estimate |
| Start date or Start | Start |
| Target date or Target | Target |
Git-Zen matches these fields by name. It ignores fields with other names. It reads up to 10 projects for each issue.
To hide project data, clear Project under Enable Git-Zen Sections → Display linked issue in the settings.
Git-Zen loads project data when the sidebar opens. Changes on the project board do not post a comment to the Zendesk ticket.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The Project list is empty. Check these items:
- The OAuth user (or token) can see the project in GitHub.
- Your organization allows Git-Zen. See Organization authorization.
- The token has the
projectscope. Reconnect GitHub if you see the banner.
I see the project name but no field values. Git-Zen shows only the field names in the table above. Rename the field in GitHub, or add a field with one of these names.
My classic project does not show. GitHub retired Projects (classic). Move the project to the current GitHub Projects.
