Linear OAuth User
Git-Zen uses one Linear OAuth token for every action it takes in Linear.
About the Linear OAuth user
Section titled “About the Linear OAuth user”The OAuth user is the Linear user who authorized Git-Zen during installation. The Webhooks screen in the Git-Zen sidebar shows this user under Linear OAuth User.
Git-Zen uses the token to:
- Create issues
- List teams, issues, labels, members, workflow states, cycles, projects, milestones, and templates
- Add the reference tag to issue descriptions, and change issue labels
- Add comments
- Create and remove the workspace webhook
Linear shows every issue and comment that Git-Zen creates as the work of this user. Many teams create a separate Linear user for this, such as “Zendesk Integration”.
Linear supports OAuth only. You cannot use a personal access token with Git-Zen for Linear.
Token lifetime
Section titled “Token lifetime”Linear access tokens expire after 24 hours. Git-Zen stores a refresh token and renews the access token before it expires. You do not need to re-authorize on a schedule.
You must re-authorize when:
- Someone revokes the Git-Zen authorization in Linear.
- The OAuth user leaves the workspace or loses access.
- The token refresh fails and does not recover.

If the authorizing user cannot grant the admin scope, Git-Zen cannot create the webhook. Ask a Linear workspace Admin to authorize.
Re-authorize the OAuth token
Section titled “Re-authorize the OAuth token”- On the main Git-Zen screen, click Help.
- Find Reset Git-Zen OAUTH Token.
- Click Re-Authorize Your Token and follow the prompts.
You must be a Zendesk administrator to see this button. Re-authorizing also authorizes Zendesk again.
When you re-authorize, Git-Zen replaces the token. If the workspace webhook is missing, Git-Zen creates it again and checks every team on the Webhooks screen.
Change the OAuth user
Section titled “Change the OAuth user”Sign in to Linear as the new user. Then re-authorize as described above. Linear authorizes the account that is signed in.
Common problems
Section titled “Common problems”My teams do not load. The token may be revoked, or the OAuth user may have left the workspace. Re-authorize.
Some teams are missing. Git-Zen lists the teams that the OAuth user can see, up to 100. Make sure the OAuth user can access the team in Linear. Then click Clear Repository Cache on the Webhooks screen.
New states, labels, or members do not show. Git-Zen caches team data for a short time. Wait a few minutes, then refresh the Zendesk browser tab.
